Quick guide
General preparation guidance. Once published, BKMUN’s own Rules of Procedure take precedence.
Research your country
Use reliable sources to identify its policy on the agenda. Keep track of evidence and distinguish national policy from your own opinion.
Prepare your contribution
Outline the problem, your country’s position and a feasible proposal. Follow the conference instructions for speeches and written submissions.
Listen and negotiate
Ask questions, compare proposals and look for common ground. Disagree with ideas respectfully.
Write workable proposals
Explain who should act and how. Check whether the proposed action is within the committee’s mandate.
MUN glossary
Delegate
A participant representing an assigned country or role.
Chair
The person guiding the committee and applying its rules.
Motion
A formal proposal about how the meeting should proceed.
Moderated caucus
A focused discussion with speaking turns managed by the chair.
Unmoderated caucus
A period for direct negotiation and drafting with other delegates.
Position paper
A short explanation of a country’s stance and proposed solutions. Requirements vary.
Draft resolution
A proposed committee document, discussed before adoption.
Amendment
A proposed change to a draft resolution.
